The President of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, said today that "the furniture of the region are already present in the homes of 100 countries on five continents", which is evidence "of" strength "which, Despite the crisis, characterized nationally and internationally in this sector for the regional economy.
Valcárcel was speaking after inaugurating the 49th edition of the International Furniture Fair of Yecla, held at the fairgrounds in the town until 13 March, accompanied by the local mayor, Juan Miguel Benedito, and the Minister of Universities , Business and Research, Salvador Marín.
The industrial and commercial quoted represents the fair, Spain's oldest and second largest nationally, meets this year the theme 'The evolution of the species', referring to Darwin's evolutionary theory, that will more stronger from the crisis who bet on the design and R + D + i, as well as increased international presence of its products.
Valcárcel also noted that "in the past year, figures from the regional sector of the furniture, in terms of exports, have been better and more favorable than the national average.
In addition, between 2008 and 2009, has experienced significant growth of nearly 30 percent of sales to France, the main destination for international companies in Murcia, who have also managed to introduce their products in markets such as Japan and quoted relevant or UAE.

The regional chief executive stressed also the "significant efforts from the regional government to make our companies better access in international markets, within the so-called comprehensive internationalization strategy."
This initiative has the backing of the Ministry of Universities and Research Company, through the Trade Promotion Plan, subsidizes 50 percent of the space contracted by each regional firm in the fairgrounds.
Proof of the commitment of the Ministry with the furniture sector, through the Institute of Development, is the number of applications approved last year, 152 in total, under 'InfoFinanciación 2009', for granting aid to companies in Murcia in areas such as trade, finance and innovation, by the 24 recorded in 2008 and has also meant an increase in the value of subsidies received by enterprises, which increased from 421,765 euros to 1,324,681 euros.
A sector which employs over 12,000 people
Furniture Fair of Yecla, which occupies an area of 17,000 square meters, this year with a figure around 130 exhibitors, with the largest delegation of foreign professionals in its history, as 50 representatives of companies from 16 countries hold business meetings with companies in the region.
On this occasion, international delegations come from Ukraine, Russia, Japan, Germany, Benelux, Brazil, Chile, France, Hungary, Mexico, Panama, Qatar, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
In the Region, the area covers 1,667 companies, employing over 12,000 people, including Murcia exhibitors at the fair include manufacturers of furniture and upholstery, mattress products, furniture and decorative lighting, and auxiliary services .
Most of the professionals attending the fair are importers, wholesalers, chain stores, members of design studios and decorators have extensive experience nationally and internationally.
