A total of 60 companies involved in Yecla Furniture Fair fourth Zaragoza (23/01/2014)

The regional sector exported furniture worth 44 million euros last year

The Minister of Industry, Enterprise and Innovation, José Ballesta, together with the Mayor of Yecla, Marcos Ortuño, today supported the participation of regional companies during the inauguration of the fourth edition of the International Furniture Fair of Zaragoza.

A total of 70 firms Murcia (60 of them Yecla) participates in this event held from today until January 26

Significance of furniture in the Region

The furniture sector and the wood is important in the regional economy, with a total of 1,100 companies that employ 7,000 people and its turnover amounted to 380 million euros, according to data for the year 2012, which accounts for 5 percent of the gross value added of the industrial sector.

The Minister stressed that "during the years of greatest economic difficulty, exports are growing in the furniture sector, in particular, last year reached 44 million euros."

Furthermore, according to the latest data, until October 2013 Murcia furniture exports have increased by 10 percent over the same period last year.

The Institute of Development has analyzed which markets are most furniture companies in the region and concluded that they should direct their export efforts towards Chile, France, Panama, Turkey and Vietnam, countries that account for 30 percent of exports sector.
