The pensions and Eduardo Garzón, protagonists of the Republican Week (10/04/2018)

Once again, with the arrival of the month of April, IU-Verdes de Yecla takes the opportunity to remember the Second Spanish Republic in what will be the 87th anniversary of its proclamation.

The same republic that so many people defended with their own lives in the face of the coup that years later gave Franco and the rebel army.

In this sixth edition, the following acts will be carried out:

On Wednesday, April 11, at 8:00 pm, at the Casa de Cultura, a talk will be held in defense of pensions.

The retired professor Elvira Ramos, Ignacio López of the Major Area of IU-Greens of the Region of Murcia and the Doctor of Economics, José Francisco Bellod, will speak.

As opening of the act, the Poleic Circle of Yecla will offer the odd surprise with different performances.

Presentation of Eduardo Garzón's book

Two days later, on Friday, April 13, at 8:00 p.m., the House of Culture will host Eduardo Garzón Espinosa, who will present his latest book.

"Dismantling the economic myths of the Spanish right: a guide so that they do not give it to you with cheese" is the last work of this economist, brother of the federal coordinator of Izquierda Unida, Alberto Garzón.

Economist of the Scientific Council of ATTAC Spain, PhD in Economics and collaborator in programs such as La Sexta Noche, Eduardo Garzón is one of the most prestigious economists on the left.

This is a book for those who see economics as a very technical science, replete with seemingly complex numbers and indicators that only experts understand.

It is because it shows that you do not need to have an academic background to understand the essence of economic phenomena.

They are much simpler than they seem.

The only thing that needs to be done to understand them is to assimilate that politics and economics are two sides of the same coin, that the current economic situation benefits some and harms others and that the former will try by all means to keep it that way.

This is also a book for those progressives who, when they ask for more social justice through a greater redistribution of income and wealth, are tired of hearing: "I hope, but you can not."

And not knowing what to answer.

Because Eduardo Garzón challenges that response with arguments, provides tools to combat it and explains that the best way to understand the economy, to put it at the service of the social majority, is to get rid of the lies that the economic right constantly transmits to us by almost all pores of the system.

Finally, that same Friday, at 10pm at the IU-Verdes headquarters, the Republican dinner will be held for friends and supporters.
