The PSEC of Yecla shows its total rejection to the construction of pig farms in both the Arabí and in the region before the contamination of our aquifer (29/08/2017)

The Yeclanos socialists support and acknowledge the pedagogical and reclamation work being carried out by the 'Save the Arabí' Platform, and maintain that "in a region where only aquifers are overexploited as in our region should not develop any livestock activity Of such intensity as it mortgages the future of supply and contaminates the environment "

The leadership of the Socialist Group of Yecla has expressed its firm rejection to the construction of pig farms in the surroundings of Mount Arabí as in the rest of the region, supporting in this way the positioning shown by the Platform 'Save the Arabí and his region'.

The Socialists consider that "it is completely inappropriate to develop such an exploitation in the surroundings of a Natural Monument such as Monte Arabí, also recognized by UNESCO, and that of the area of Cerro de los Santos, with a great archaeological value" .

From the PSOE de Yecla share the position of trying to prevent these facilities in the surrounding region arguing reasons for "environmental unsustainability of such livestock activity in a region like ours that lacks water resources and can not mortgage the future of their Subsoil with an activity that requires a lot of water and whose purines contaminate precisely the aquifer with which it is counted and which at the moment is already classified as overexploited in different reports of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura.

In this sense, the socialists of Yecla believe in a necessary and urgent global debate on livestock models, considering that alternative solutions and solutions must be sought from these intensive farms that considerably damage the environment both from the stench, insects The impact on wildlife and the contamination of the subsoil that produces its waste proliferate in its environment.

The protection of the aquifer as the main legal firewall

Faced with the complexity of the matter and the higher competences and legislations that must be carried out, the Socialists consider that "in the short, medium and long term, they are working to raise public awareness and legislative action on this activity, while these farms As well as the agricultural ones remain legal the main legal and political firewall to follow is to promote aquifer protection initiatives and the timely regulation that prevents these facilities in regions like ours that only have this water resource.

In this regard, they consider it optimal that such initiatives be agreed with unity between the Platform 'Save the Arabí' and the different political parties in our city and defend themselves jointly before the various higher instances.

Municipal measures to place legal obstacles to these activities

Likewise, they also propose to agree on municipal measures as a hindrance to the activity, such as the express, controlled and sanctioned prohibition of the movement of trucks of animal load by roads or streets of our municipal term to prevent that from the north zone can be reached To the highway, or the exhaustive control of the manure and sludge discharges by means of the Ordinance of Dumps, something that the Socialist Municipal Group has been claiming for two years, also increasing the amount of the sanction in the case of irregularly coming from livestock of other Communities Autonomous.

From the PSOE they affirm that the necessary economic diversification of the municipality can not be done through the exploitation of nonrenewable resources through activities that are only sustained economically through the plundering of natural resources, and consider "fundamental the mobilization that is showing the citizenship of Yecla And the magnificent work of the 'Save the Arabí' Platform for the necessary awareness of the harmful impact of these farms, not only in Yecla but also in the region, since only with pedagogy will the unity of action be achieved by those who share our Precious aquifer ".

Contact at all levels and meeting of the socialists of the region

Finally, the Socialists are working to detail more measures at all levels for greater protection of Mount Arabí and to limit intensive livestock and agricultural exploitation that can be harmful to the fauna, subsoil and aquifer of our region, and From next week they will develop an agenda of contacts with socialist leaders of different rank and level, as well as the projection of an intercomarcal meeting between mayors and socialist spokesmen in the area to address the issue and be able to establish a position on the matter.
