IU-Verdes denounces that the garbage rate will skyrocket next year (29/09/2020)

| The left-wing party defends that the service would improve and be cheaper in the medium term if the management were public IU-Verdes denounces that, due to the poor management of the PP, the City Council will be forced to raise the garbage rate next year.

Thus, the formation of the left specifies that this increase is determined by the null investment in recent years in improving the service and because the service is privatized.  According to Alberto Martínez, IU-Verdes spokesperson, “Yecla has a garbage collection service that is obsolete and has caused our city to have dirty streets.

But, in addition, because it is initially cheap, now it will be expensive because the service cannot continue as it has been up to now and many investments have to be made at once ”.

Likewise, Alberto Martínez points out that “with a public service, citizens would pay less money, investments would be made progressively so that they would be less noticeable in the pocket, the service would be adapted to real needs and we would not have to wait for the end of the contract to , for example, increase the frequency of collection or add new garbage containers ”. In this sense, from Izquierda Unida-Verdes they explain that currently the urban solid waste collection and street cleaning contract involves an annual outlay of approximately 2.2 million euros.

However, the technical services have estimated that a new private tender adapted to the current reality of Yecla would cost around 4 million euros per year and, in addition, the City Council would have to be committed to a private company for at least twelve years.

For this reason, from IU-Greens, they specify that the garbage rate will necessarily have to rise and that the poor management of the PP will affect the pocket of the citizens. From the formation of the left, they remember that the remunicipalisation of the service would lower the price of the service, since it would not be necessary to pay benefits to any company and, in addition, it would allow cleaning tasks to adapt to the evolution of habits and, therefore , Yecla would be cleaner and the rate would not be so expensive.

From IU-Verdes they ensure that the current contract ends on April 1, 2021; Thus, they estimate that the City Council is in time to study the possibility of the service being public again and thus improving its benefits.

For this reason, from Izquierda Unida-Verdes they announce that they will present a proposal in the next regular plenary session in October with the aim of taking the first steps so that the collection of urban solid waste, street cleaning and selective collection become quality public services.
