The Civil Guard investigates the alleged perpetrator of the fire of about four hectares of forest land (14/09/2020)

| Occurred in the Sierra El Serral, Yecla municipality | The alleged responsibility of the crime of forest fire due to negligence is attributed to him The fire originated when the soot from the chimney of the building caught and came out through the upper part of the tube Several neighbors collaborated in the first extinction efforts The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, within the framework of the 'Cerricos' operation, has carried out an investigation to determine the causes of the fire that burned nearly four hectares of forest land in the Sierra el Serral, Yecla municipality, which It has culminated in the investigation of the investigation of a person who is allegedly responsible for the crime of forest fire due to negligence. Members of the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Civil Guard began the investigation after a forest fire broke out last Tuesday, September 8, in an area of ??forest and scrubland of an intensive hunting reserve located in the La Teatina area, in the municipality of Yecla The fire, which affected an area of ??about four hectares made up of scrubland and small trees (junipers and pines), was extinguished with the intervention of several fire crews from Yecla Park, a forestry brigade and a helicopter. The SEPRONA de la Benemérita, in collaboration with environmental agents from the Region of Murcia, collected traces in the area that made it possible to determine the possibility of human negligence. The analysis of the evidence obtained confirmed that the fire had originated in the chimney of a house.

The soot accumulated in the tube burned and, due to the strong prevailing wind at that time, the debris that came out of the upper part, towards the exterior of the property, came into contact with combustible materials of low vegetation that surrounded the house and, by extension , to the nearest forest land. Several residents of the area warned of the fire and collaborated in the first extinguishing tasks while the corresponding fire crews traveled to the place. Investigators have identified the owner of the home where the incident originated, which is why he has been investigated as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of forest fire due to negligence. The Civil Guard advises periodically sweeping the soot accumulated in the chimneys to avoid fatal outcomes.

Creosotes or fats adhering to the tube, the lack of overflows or short shots that prevent the flames from entering or reaching the smoke outlet is a common cause of fire in stoves and chimneys. The person under investigation and the proceedings brought have been made available to the Investigating Court of Yecla (Murcia). Wildfire crime The perpetrators of this type of act may incur a crime, set forth in the current Penal Code, which is punishable by imprisonment of one to five years and a fine of twelve to eighteen months.
