The technical services give the green light to the two mega solar fields of Monte Arabí (28/08/2020)

| Izquierda Unida-Verdes denounces that finally the urban compatibility certificates establish that the regulations allow the construction of the projects of the mega solar fields in El Arabí | At the beginning of last July IU-Verdes made public that the request for an urban compatibility certificate for the construction of two mega solar plants on the slopes of Mount Arabí had been registered with the city council.

As announced by the formation at that time, these projected infrastructures could involve the industrial transformation of up to 795 hectares of the surroundings of the Natural Monument. Likewise, the left-wing force warned that, according to the General Urban Development Plan in force and the regional legislation, the two mega-plants could begin to be a reality in a short time.

Therefore, they required the Government Team to put into operation the appropriate legal mechanisms to prevent the ecological disaster that these facilities would entail.

However, they point out that instead of working for the approval of the legal measures necessary to protect the environment, the reaction of the Popular Party was to accuse Izquierda Unida of lying, despite the fact that a file had already been opened for the elaboration of the cédulas and that in the last year 7 projects for solar panel fields located on the undeveloped land of Yecla have been processed without impediments.

Also, Jesús Verdú,Councilor for the Environment, assured the press that the legal reports would be negative.  Almost two months later, IU-Verdes announces that the technical services have issued the urban compatibility certificates that were requested and these allow the interested company to present a project that legally would be very difficult to stop tomorrow.

Likewise, the left-wing formation indicates that the government team of Marcos Ortuño is endangering the entire environment of Mount Arabí due to its reckless immobility.

For this reason, they urge the PP to get to work immediately to put in place all the necessary mechanisms to shield Mount Arabí. Finally, Izquierda Unida-Verdes recalls that the Popular Party has taken advantage of the pandemic to reform the Law of territorial and urban planning of the Region of Murcia.

Thus, the forces of the right have introduced legal changes that in practice mean that from now on the solar fields will not even have to be submitted to public exposure for their autonomic processing.

In this sense, they denounce that this makes disappear the little citizen control that there was until now over these facilities and in the coming years the companies will have very easy to carry out these constructions.
