The Executive Committee studies the possibility of finding a new date for this 2020.
"We have waited as long as possible to see how this situation developed, but today it is impossible to hold the Furniture Fair in May."
The Executive Committee of the Yecla Furniture Fair (FMY), whose 59th Edition was scheduled to be held from May 19 to 22, has decided to postpone the celebration of the event, the most veteran of the entire national calendar of fairs in the furniture sector .
The decision was made taking into account the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic that would make it impossible for the FMY to be held normally.
"At this time we could not confirm the safety of the more than a hundred exhibitors who had ratified their presence and of all the customers and visitors who had already processed their accreditations," said the director of the FMY, Inmaculada Hernández.
From the executive committee, explained its president Marcos Ortuño, 'we have waited as long as possible to make this decision, but out of responsibility towards all Yeclanos, towards the people who are part of the organization of this fair and towards the exhibitors that every year they give us their confidence, we have made the decision to postpone the edition. '
This decision is made in a global context of postponements and cancellations of events around the world due to the advancement of the coronavirus.
Cancellations that have affected such important events as the Mobile World Congress (Barcelona), the Motor Show (Geneva), ITB (Berlin) and the postponements of Alimentaria (Barcelona), ProWein (Dusseldorf) and the Hannover Fair which are now FMY joins.
Inmaculada Hernández, director of the event, has indicated that the Organizing Committee will not stop working 'to find a new date', since it is one of the most important events in the sector at the national level and also a sectoral event that puts the name of the Region of Murcia and Yecla on the international scene, but that at the moment 'the FMY is postponed without a closed celebration date'.
The Executive Committee of the Fair wanted to have a few words of recognition for the entire industrial sector that makes up the Yecla furniture cluster.
During these past days, we Yeclanos have shown Spain all the solidarity that we always show off and we have been able to turn our companies into true generators of aid for all who needed us.
We have designed and manufactured a health protection material that has saved and continues to save lives.
For all this, thank you very much. '
