The mayor of Yecla asks the Regional Assembly for help in the silence of the CHS (12/02/2020)

'The CHS has denied us bypassing the requests that all municipal groups, which the Plenary of our city council has transferred to it on different occasions'

'We have asked the Regional Government to develop guidelines for the highland on agricultural land use while the PGOU drafting team is finalizing reports to limit intensive crops'

Given the lack of response obtained by our city council to the Segura Hydrographic Confederation in reference to the control and replenishment of the aquifers that supply us with water, the mayor of Yecla, Marcos Ortuño, together with the regional deputy Jesús Cano, has appeared in Press conference to present a series of initiatives that will be presented to the Regional Assembly.

Marcos Ortuño, who has transferred on different occasions to the CHS the concern of the Yeclanos before the proliferation of farms of intensive crops in our town, has begun saying that 'it is essential to guarantee the quality of our aquifers and the supply of water for consumption human as for the maintenance and sustainability of our traditional agriculture '.

Likewise, the mayor of Yecla has stated that 'on different occasions we have transferred these concerns and the request for greater control of our aquifers to the CHS obtaining silence by response, that is why we have decided to raise these requests to the regional parliament and try that with this We can request that the CHS be interested in the problem of the highlands'.

Likewise, and finally, the mayor of Yecla has stressed that 'it is necessary not only for the CHS to initiate these controls but for the Government of Spain to work and approve a national water pact that will solve once and for all the problems we have been dragging on for years.

A pact that guarantees us the solution for the replenishment of our aquifers before the next entry into force in 2027 of the European framework directive on water, with the external contribution of water for our aquifers from the Júcar-Vinalopó and the connection with the Taibilla '.
