More about the work:

"Il Trovatore" was the most represented and beloved opera in Verdi's time.

With this work, the Italian maestro pays homage to the past, composing an opera of long and Bellinian melodies, in which the essence of romantic drama is epicly integrated.

The libreto, by Salvadore Cammarano, is based on "El trovador" by Antonio García Gutiérrez, one of the masterpieces of Spanish romantic theater, in which the ideals of amorous passion and revenge are exalted with dexterity.

In its staging, this production has a star cast.

The leading roles are considered some of the most difficult to execute in the history of opera.

Premiered at the Teatro Apollo in Rome, on January 19, 1853 and at the Teatro Real in Madrid on February 16, 1854.

In a new production of the Teatro Real, Maurizio Benini directs two performances full of big Verdi stars: Ludovic Tézier, María Agresta, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Francesco Meli and Roberto Tagliavini, among many others.

The convoluted plot, based on the play by Antonio García Gutiérrez, has a great production by Francisco Negrín, which highlights the dramatic and overwhelming tension of this work by Verdi.

On this occasion in Madrid a coproduction Teatro Real is presented with Opera de Monte Carlo and The Royal Danish Opera of Copenhagen.
