A new fatal accident in Yecla highlights the need for effective compliance with prevention regulations (11/06/2019)

CCOO regrets this death that reinforces the increase in accidents reported by this union due to the lack of means and inspections of companies in the area of occupational risk prevention.

A 39-year-old man has died in an accident in a quarry in the Sierra de la Magdalena despite attempts to resuscitate after a fall in height.

So far, no more information has been released about the causes of the incident due to the lack of communication when such events occur, as the administration favors the bad practices of the companies due to the lack of application of the precepts of current regulations. Prevention of occupational hazards.

Since every employer must adopt prevention and protection measures to promote the safety of all their workers.

The Secretary of Occupational Health of CCOO, José María López, lamented this new death and expressed the intention of the union to clarify the causes of the accident, as well as to ask for responsibilities.

Also, Lopez stressed "the need for the Administration to monitor the working conditions and to reinforce the vigilance in the companies so that the conditions of prevention of occupational risks are met".

This continuous increase in work-related accidents is another example of the poor quality of employment generated by the policies developed by the regional government.

CCOO calls for a greater commitment of companies in the effective compliance with regulations on occupational risk prevention and greater control and oversight of Public Administrations against the bad practices of some companies, which base the increase in productivity in precarious conditions. conditions of work, without taking into account the prevention of risks.

We believe that the best tool to reduce or avoid damage to the health of workers is prevention.

Therefore, CCOO requires companies to invest more to develop prevention plans in their work centers, as well as a special supervision of the Labor Inspection and Public Administrations of working conditions.

This would make accidents like yesterday could be avoided.
