Landslides on the facade of the "San José de Calasanz" School (07/09/2018)

The Municipal Group of IU-Greens in the Town Hall of Yecla wants to show that the landslides on the façade of the "San José de Calasanz" School are only a consequence of the privatization policies and cuts that the Party has carried out Popular during all these years of government, also in education.

This was the first school in Yecla that was built differently from what had been done until then and that consisted of a system according to which the City Council contributed the land and the Autonomous Community financed and executed the construction of the center.

However, the new "San José de Calasanz" was built by a private company, which was awarded the work under a collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Education and Culture of the CARM and the City Council in 2005.

The Group M. of IU-Green already denounced at that time that with this formula what was being done was to leave in the hands of the City Council all the responsibility in the event that some loss occurred in the future, as a result of a poor construction , responsibility that in no way should correspond.

We have verified that although the work was initially budgeted at 2,598,505.87 €, it was finally awarded by auction in 2006, to the company "Mantenimientos y Construcciones Alcuba, SA", for a total price of 1,948,996, 34 €

and that, in addition to this low bid, during the construction process, those responsible for education of the PP at that time, were boasting cost savings and "much money that was left over."

The report issued in days past by the technical architect of the Autonomous Community attributed the detachment to an incorrect execution of the wall of the facade and the lintel of the windows where the bricks are supported, indicating also that it is the rains that have given rise to the collapse.

On the other hand, the Councilor for Education, in his appearance, talks about continuous leaks of water on the roof and the need to strengthen the asphalt fabric.

Considering that the technical report says that the façade in general is loose in its entirety, and that it is logical to think that this incorrect execution will have been carried out in the whole building, we believe it is necessary to carry out a exhaustive study of the state of the whole school and not only of the area now affected, also establishing the definitive solutions.

Once the report is issued, we will know the scope of the action to be carried out, which must surely be greater than the one that is going to be undertaken urgently and which, according to reports, will consist of repairing the detached façade.

For the execution of this work, we see that private companies are again used and that the Government Team places special emphasis on the money they will cost and on the possibility of holding the company accountable, but it is not talked about. more important, which is to guarantee the safety of all schoolchildren and teachers.

If this had been done right from the beginning, if the Autonomous Community had assumed the construction of the College as it belonged, and not this City Council, which yielded to the wishes of the Autonomous Administration, which surely wanted to smooth the difficulties offered by the law of Contracts and the Budget Stability Law, as denounced in 2005 by the municipal group of IU-Greens, we would not be talking about the need to face a difficult and delicate reparation, with the school year started, and having to see us immersed later in a long and burdensome civil process, in its case, against the adjudicating company and other intervenors in the construction, to demand responsibilities.
