In the Municipal Council for the month of February, the Socialist Municipal Group filed an urgent motion on treatment with pheromones to avoid the plague of the Vine Moth
With the votes of the Popular Party and its government partner, the Working Group was denied the urgency of the motion, the argument that, for these municipal groups, justified the urgency was not: That the Department of Agriculture would make arrangements and convene a meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture of the CARM to try to solve the situation.
A few days ago there was a meeting attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the designation of origin, industry representatives and the Councillor for Agriculture, but to date nothing has changed in the situation.
Situation in which the growers have to cope with 60% of the cost of treatment, a cost of 70 euros per hectare, obviously something totally unaffordable by farmers, especially if we consider that the sector has been immersed in biggest crisis in history, in which market prices are below production costs.
On the other hand, nobody doubts the significant progress made in this treatment that has led us to have some products almost organic in the Designation of Origin Yecla.
Progress that we risk losing because, due to its high cost, many farmers may opt either not to, either by returning to old chemical treatments more bearable economically.
Picking up the concern of many growers and taking into account the current malaise in the agricultural sector, when most needed, is not adequately addressed their needs by the Department of Agriculture's who has expertise in the matter at hand and that is why that Municipal Socialist Group proposes in its motion to urge the Ministry of Agriculture of the Autonomous Community of Murcia to continue providing free treatment with anti-moth pheromones Vine.
