The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, today announced, along with the mayor of Yecla, Marcos Ortuño, and the president of the PDO Yecla, Pascual Molina, VII Yecla Wine Selection Contest, held in our city morning, May 30.

This edition will bring together 54 samples of wine production in this area will be evaluated by a jury composed of tasting critics and winemakers.

The Yecla Wine Region produces over six million liters of wine and they exported 95 percent to foreign markets.

Among the major recipients markets are USA, Canada, Japan and China, and within the EU, Germany, Denmark and the UK.

The owner of Agriculture and Water said that these export figures "demonstrate its high efficiency in adapting their wines to the demands and characteristics of the different markets."

He said that the cultivation techniques used by winemakers from this DO are "environmentally friendly and collection processes very successful vine."

He also stressed that the wine competition, it is a "great boost to the promotion of Yecla wine sector, which is seeing the fruit of the efforts made in recent years of the 500 growers assigned to the PDO."

Yecla Mayor stated that "holding this contest confirms the importance of a sector on the rise and the close collaboration between the city and the Regulatory Board to enhance the quality and reputation of our wines. Since its inception the competition has led objective the promotion of one of the deepest of farming in our town and partly associated with culture and local food "products.

Ortuño Marcos recalled that "Yecla wines are placed in the main foreign trade sales channels, with a skilled and diversified offer, responding to what consumers demand around the world."
