Yecla Mayor inaugurates the Day Centre for People with Mental Illness AFEMY (27/11/2013)

It has been accompanied by the Director of the Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS) Fernando Mateo, the Director General of Persons with Disabilities, John Brown and the President of the Association of Families of Mentally Ill Yecla (AFEMY), Joaquín Marín.

The Mayor of Yecla, Marcos Ortuño, inaugurated the Day Centre for People with Mental Illness of the Association of Families of Mentally Ill Yecla (AFEMY).

It has been accompanied by the Director of the Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS) Fernando Mateo, the Director General of Persons with Disabilities, John Brown and the President of AFEMY, Joaquín Marín.

Marcos Ortuño has welcomed "by the implementation of a service in high demand and requested by AFEMY which will meet 19 people with mental illness and their families. Thanks to the efforts from the City to the Autonomous Region this center starts walk with 10 places conveniadas ensuring continuity "

AFEMY born in 2001 with the intention of defending the rights and improving the quality of life of people with mental illness and their families.

The implementation of this day center is one of the major objectives since its inception

Through this service is to provide information, support, guidance and advice to people with Mental Illness and their families throughout the region of the altiplano.

Moreover seeks to recover or maintain the highest degree of personal autonomy of each user, providing permanence in their usual environment.

Similarly, the day center would promote the social integration of people with mental illness through various rehabilitation workshops, basic skills and educational activities, cultural character and leisure time, among others.

The center has a director, coordinator and various specialized personnel: Social Worker, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist.

Furthermore nurse, monitors, administrators and volunteers.

It is located in a local 146 square meters donated by the city of Yecla.

It has dining room, offices, treatment rooms, multipurpose rooms, relaxation rooms and toilets
