The IU-Greens spokesman in the city of Yecla, Jose Miguel Castillo, said today that his organization has already warned about the dumping of sludge in the town and that, therefore, the Councillor for the Environment, Jesús Verdú, "lying" to ensure that he was not aware of this fact.
Castillo has reacted well after learning that one of the heads of the public company that operated the plant's wastewater treatment plant of Pinedo, Valencia, has confirmed that fields of Yecla received discharges for years without any environmental control.
He recalled that IU-Greens submitted two requests, one in 2008 and one in 2010, which requested the analysis of discharge after echoing numerous complaints from neighbors who reported the presence of sludge and the proliferation of insects and bad odors.
In addition, he noted that in 2007, a proposal for the formation of the Left, the City issued a municipal side by prohibiting the dumping of sludge in the summer months by the strong odor given off.
"Insect pests were uncontrollable and ask that you ensure that the sludge dumping was legal and containing no chemicals to avoid harming the aquifer from which it comes that supply water to the citizens, but they ignored our complaints ".
He added that "nobody wanted to see if it complied with the law, nor was any analysis to check whether the discharges were toxic to the aquifers. Always got evasive and we asserted that the regulations are met."
Also, Castillo pointed out that members of the government team has to give an explanation for not taking appropriate action at the time and "show what they know of this corrupted frame has very serious dotted our town."
