The environmental association claims that the council close the dump forced by the allegations of the illegal status of the landfill, and asked for clarification on the management granted to the General for an activity that was not authorized
Ecologists in Action has come out against the remarks of Councillor Hall Public Services in Yecla, Antonio Puche, who recently announced the closing (as of 11/10/2010 Monday) of the Municipal Escombrera Yecla.
The reasons given by the council have to do with the adequacy of these facilities to European standards.
However, for the environmental organization "what is really behind the dump had been up until the day of closing, without regulatory approval, that is, illegally."
A situation that was reported earlier by the environmental organization, and in March 2009 led to the initiation of disciplinary proceedings to the General, a private company has managed the municipal landfill for several years and had no authority to exercise this activity.
In this sense, Ecologists in Action claims yeclano consistory explanations for a situation they describe as "grotesque."
And, for environmentalists, "is not acceptable that the municipality has maintained an agreement with a private company to manage an illegal landfill."
For environmentalists the performance of the consistory yeclano in this case "is a clear example of municipal mismanagement of such waste, and scant concern for the problem of littering."
And its end, they conclude, "now forced by the illegality of the municipal dump, and no suitable alternatives are provided which can prevent the emergence of new illegal landfills, shows the total lack of planning for municipal officials on waste management "
