Historical result in Holland (23/07/2017)

The Yeclana group, with 96.17 points out of 100, ranks as the band with the highest score of its section and of the whole contest

Yecla (Murcia) The Yecla Association of Friends of Music Band has written its name with golden letters in the history of the prestigious international Kerkrade competition in the Netherlands.

With a brilliant and outstanding performance, the band got 95.67 points out of 100 on the forced play ("Summer Dances" by Adam Gorb) and 96.67 on David Maslanka's "Give Us This Day."

This averaged 96.17 points out of 100 with his performance.

It is the best score, not only the 13 bands from around the world that have already performed in the second section, but the more than 30 bands that have gone through Kerkrade in these first two weeks of the contest.

This fact has meant that in addition to the gold medal and honor distinction, the Yecla Band received the golden timbal, as a band with higher score of the second section.

As soon as Yecla's band score was announced, the more than 200 Yeclanas and Yeclanas displaced until Kerkrade could not suppress the feelings.

A shout of joy reverberated throughout the Heerlen Theater of the Dutch town.

The euphoria of the Spaniards exploded while the band's director, Angel Hernandez, and its president Francisco Muñoz received the award from the jury.

"At the moment we are the best band that has happened here, it is true that the next weekend we have great bands in our category. We wait, but right now we are the first, "he explained minutes after picking the award the director himself with a gesture of contentment and relaxation after months of hard work.

And the immense work of the director and the band, where 80% of the musicians are amateurs, has paid off.

Months of effort that have been gratefully compensated in this prestigious contest, but that would not have been possible without all the work behind.

Because our headband is just the tip of an immense size iceberg whose base is the music school that currently houses more than 600 students of all possible instruments, both classical and modern.

Without forgetting the youth band and the initiation band that, little by little, are nourishing of young, but expert musicians to our titular band.

And is that yesterday, many of the musicians who were on the stage of Kerkrade did not exceed 25 years.

In short, a colossal project that is writing in capital letters the cultural history of the city of Yecla and the Region of Murcia.

The best competition in the world

In 1949 was born in Kerkrade (Holland) the World Music Contest, considered at the moment like the best contest of bands of the world.

Known as the "Music Olympics" because it is also celebrated every four years, the Kerkrade contest is the place where every band should be if they want to prove their worth.

In this edition, that is the 18, they participate 250 groupings between bands, fanfarrias, ensembles and brass band, both inside and outside the contest.

There will be more than 18,000 musicians from 30 different countries.

The Yecla Band, which took the stage of the TeatroParkstad Limburg with over 90 musicians, participates in the second section of this contest, along with bands from Belgium, Singapore, Colombia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy, Latvia, Germany, Spain, Holland or Portugal.

The participation of the Yecla band in the World Music Contest Kerkrade 2017 is the second performance of our band outside of Spain.

In the first occasion, in the contest of Riva of the Garda (Italy) in 2009, obtained a prestigious second prize and Angel Hernandez was chosen better director of the whole contest.

This time, we have managed to overcome those already magnificent records.
