The XXXVII National Cross "Fiestas de la Virgen" will take place on Sunday, December 15 (11/12/2019)

Several elite international athletes have confirmed their participation |

On Sunday, December 15, the XXXVII National Cross 'Fiestas de la Virgen' will take place in the sports complex 'Juan Palao', organized by the Department of Sports and the squadron of arcabuceros Virgen del Castillo.

It has the collaboration of ADA Yeclano Athletics, Club Fondistas Yecla, Club Triathlon Arabí Yecla, the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) and the Athletics Federation of the Region of Murcia (FAMU).

The competition will include 14 races of all existing categories, both male and female, and will begin at 9:40 a.m. with the men's popular race.

At 11:50 hours there will be the departure of the popular women's race, while at 13:00 hours and at 13:45 hours the absolute feminine and masculine will begin respectively.

Athletes must present at least 10 minutes before the start of their career.

Registration at the National Cross 'Fiestas de la Virgen' is free and must be done before Thursday, December 12 at 4:00 p.m.

Federated athletes must formalize their participation on the RFEA website, while non-federated athletes must go to the FAMU website.

On Friday, December 13 from 12:00 noon you can consult the list of registered on the municipal website yecla.es.

Several elite athletes have confirmed their presence in the event, such as the current Two-time Champion of Spain in 5,000 meters (2018 and 2019), Antonio Abadía, the third best athlete in the European Under-23 Championship in 5,000 meters this year, Abdessamad Oukhelfen, or the U23 European Champion in 10,000 meters in 2017, Carlos Mayo.

In the women's categories will compete the Champion of Spain of 10,000 meters in route of 2018, Azucena Díaz, or the bronze medal in the Championship of Spain of Cross in that same year, María José Pérez.

Prizes will be awarded to the six best runners in each category, as well as to the first Yeclano.

The educational centers will receive a cash amount according to the level of participation of their students.

The National Cross 'Fiestas de la Virgen' has a budget of 26,200 euros, of which 15,600 euros come from the Department of Sports.

The Councilor for Sports, Pedro Romero, thanked the work of the more than 100 volunteers who will make the event possible, to Local Police, Civil Protection, Red Cross and technicians of the Municipal Sports Service, and stressed that in its 2018 edition , the National Cross 'Fiestas de la Virgen' was ranked as the sixth most important in Spain.

"This competition serves a dual purpose: to bring international elite athletes to Yecla and to encourage citizen participation and our base athletes," said Romero, who thanks the collaboration of Fama Sofás, Xti and Bodegas Castaño, which donate various companies prizes, and invites all Yeclanos to attend as brokers or public.

During the National Cross 'Fiestas de la Virgen' solidarity ballots will be sold for one euro, whose proceeds will go entirely to Caritas Interparroquial de Yecla.

At the end of the competition three armchairs donated by Fama Sofás will be raffled;

In case the graceful people are not present, they will be notified by phone.

The head of Cáritas in Yecla, José María Alonso, thanked the City Council and the organization of the cross for their support for the social work of the entity.
