Extraordinary Concert of Santa Cecilia 2019 (02/12/2019)

The Association of Friends of Music of Yecla informs that last Sunday, December 1, during the Extraordinary Concert of Santa Cecilia, the Santa Cecilia 2019 Prize was presented, being awarded this year, as cited by the jury minutes:

"To the Municipal Band of Music of El Barco de Ávila for its commendable work around Music and its teaching, under the baton of its director Alfonso Márquez Hernández. With this we reinforce more, if possible, the close ties of friendship and collaboration maintained for years, contributing greatly to also strengthen the twinning between both cities. All of the above, we believe that they deserve this public recognition "

I read the Minutes of the Jury, the Secretary of the Association of Friends of Music, D. Liborio Ruiz, and then the award ceremony was carried out with the presence on the stage of the Mayor of El Barco de Ávila D. Víctor Morujig Sintschillo , the director of the Municipal Music Band of El Barco de Ávila, Mr. Alfonso Márquez Hernández, the President of the same, Mr. Francisco Muñoz Castaño and the Ilmo.

This award is given since 2005 by the Association of Friends of Music of Yecla and recognizes the work of any person, collective or entity, public or private, who works to achieve the purposes of promoting the knowledge and enjoyment of Music.

MUNICIPAL MUSIC BAND OF EL BARCO DE ÁVILA

Born from the efforts of its director Mr. Alfonso Márquez Hernández, with the help of Mr. Agustín González González, mayor at that time, and with the invaluable and continuous support of the City Council, the Municipal Music Band makes its first outing on 7 August 1994.

Since that day his presence has been constant, encouraging with his music how many events have been held in the town, in addition to having performed, with great success, several concerts in the Castle of Valdecorneja within the Barcenses Cultural Summers.

He has traveled to several towns in the province where his presence has been required and how he has carried out the most important actions in the Avila Police School for its 173 anniversary, the inauguration of the Plaza de Toros de Alcalá de Henares and the inauguration of the Gasca Cinema-Theater of El Barco de Ávila.

Currently it has 50 components that mostly belong to the Municipal School of Music of El Barco de Ávila, also created by its director.

His repertoire is very wide, currently having works of various styles such as pasodobles, zarzuelas, parades, processional marches, movie soundtracks, hymns etc ...

This year 2019 to celebrate its XXV Anniversary, the City Council with its mayor D. Víctor Morugij Sintschillo at the head, has given the band on behalf of the entire town, the distinction of Barcense of the year and a square that was inaugurated on the 31st of August and which bears the name "Municipal Music Band", demonstrating a great sensitivity towards this group.

ALFONSO MÁRQUEZ HERNÁNDEZ (Director of the Municipal Music Band of El Barco de Ávila)

Alfonso Márquez Hernández was born in El Barco de Ávila in 1967 and begins his musical studies at the Conservatory of Music of Salamanca, and then continue them at the Tomás Luís de Victoria Conservatory of Music in the city of Ávila with the Superior Saxophon Professor Jesús García Jiménez where he obtains the title of Professor of Musical Language and Saxophone with notable qualifications.

Later he acceded to the Superior Conservatory of Music of Madrid, where he finished his degree as Senior Professor of Saxophone with the Alicante Professor D. Francisco Martínez.

He attends courses taught by the most important teachers of Saxophone in Europe such as Pedro Iturralde, professor at the Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid, Claude Delangle, senior professor at the Conservatory of Music in Paris, Eloy Gracia soloist of the Municipal Symphony Band of Madrid and Professor of the Conservatory of Music of Toledo, Alfonso de la Cruz, Professor of the Conservatory of Music of Ciudad Real.

In 1994 the Municipal Band of Music of El Barco de Ávila created by him comes to light and in 1998 it puts into operation the Municipal School of Music of the same Villa with the purpose of training future musicians.

He studied Band direction with Enrique García Asensio, director of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Madrid and attended conducting courses with Ferrer Ferrán, excellent composer and director of several Valencian Music Bands and with Xosé Carlos Seran, director of the Federal Music Band from Galicia.

He has been president of the Federation of Music Bands of Castilla y León and president of the CEMS (Spanish Confederation of Musical Societies) for eight years.

He currently directs the Municipal School and Music Band of El Barco de Ávila and teaches Saxophone at the Antonio Machado Professional Conservatory of Music in Salamanca.
