The City Council receives a subsidy of 43,000 euros to adapt the cave paintings of the Arabí (04/07/2019)

The councilman of Culture, Jesus Verdú, has announced that the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of the Region of Murcia has granted a grant of 43,000 euros for the project of cleaning, consolidation and closing of the cave paintings of the Arabí located in the Cave of the Noon.

To this amount are added 50,000 euros from the Leader funds and 9,000 euros that the City Council will contribute.

The actions will consist in the withdrawal of the current protection grid, the cleaning and adaptation of the paintings and the installation of a new enclosure, which will mean "the recovery of the heritage for the knowledge and enjoyment of all", in the words of Verdú.

Archaeological surveys will also be conducted in the area in search of "prehistoric material remains that give us more information about the human groups that painted the panels", explained the director of the Municipal Archaeological Museum 'Cayetano de Mergelina', Liborio Ruiz.

Jesús Verdú has called on citizens to ensure the conservation of our natural spaces and our artistic and historical heritage, and commented that it is "a joy for all Yeclans" the granting of this grant that will allow the realization of the project in the mountains Arabí.

Social collaboration plan

The councilman of Culture has also announced the implementation of a social partnership plan for ten people for three months, which will be added to the three scholarships of four months for graduates and 12 training scholarships for a period of two months during the summer to "allow advance the archaeological works in the site of Los Torrejones while helping families in need and socialize the knowledge of our heritage."

Liborio Ruiz has explained that he intends to explore the south western wing of the complex and that they start with good expectations.

He also announced that a new employment plan will be presented in September to carry out actions in the castle hill site.

That same month there will be open days in Los Torrejones to bring the historical heritage of Yecla to interested citizens.
